Why Details Drift Apart Over Time

Drift Happens by Default

Nobody sets out to contradict themselves online, yet it happens by default. A change made in one place and not another, repeated over years, slowly pulls a business's information apart until its listings disagree.

The slide is gradual enough to go unnoticed. Each small divergence seems harmless, and only in aggregate do they add up to a business that tells different stories in different places.

Attention Is the Only Cure

Because drift is the natural state, the only remedy is periodic attention: checking that the details still agree and pulling the strays back into line before they multiply.

A business that expects drift and corrects for it stays consistent, while one that assumes its information stays put wakes up years later to a scattered, contradictory presence it never chose.
